Anxiety Q & A

When should I seek help for anxiety?

Anxiety is the fear, uneasiness, or dread you feel when you’re under stress or face a difficult or dangerous situation. Your feelings trigger a body-wide response that gives you the energy needed to deal with the challenge, and then you should relax once the situation is over.

You may have an anxiety disorder or need help overcoming extreme stress if your body and mind stay on high alert. It’s time to consider treatment when your anxiety:

  • Becomes frequent or overwhelming
  • Appears even if you don’t face or anticipate a difficult situation
  • Interferes with meeting your daily responsibilities
  • Makes you change your daily activities (to avoid things that trigger anxiety)

Anxiety seldom improves without treatment once you experience one or more of these signs.

How can I overcome anxiety?

Mental health professionals treat anxiety with therapy and sometimes medication, depending on the severity of your symptoms. If you try traditional treatments and your anxiety doesn’t improve, you may get the help you need with Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT).

MeRT treats anxiety using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). rTMS produces magnetic pulses that safely travel into your brain, stimulate nerve activity, and balance brain function.

How does rTMS improve anxiety?

Studies show that people with anxiety have different brain wave activity compared to those who don’t struggle with anxiety disorders. Precisely targeting specific brain areas with magnetic pulses improves brain activity, which relieves anxiety.

What should I expect during MeRT treatment for anxiety?

After learning about your anxiety symptoms and treatment history, your Reign-Bow Treatment Center provider performs a qualitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) and electrocardiogram (EKG).

Your qEEG shows the exact brain area responsible for your anxiety, while the EKG shows if your heart rate and brain waves are in sync. Your provider uses that information to plan and deliver your individualized MeRT with rTMS treatment.

You relax in a treatment chair, and your provider positions the TMS device against your head. The session lasts for 45 minutes, and then you’re ready to return to your daily activities.

After five daily treatments each week for two weeks, your provider does another qEEG to evaluate brain wave changes. They also assess the improvement in your symptoms. If rTMS helps, your treatments continue for another 6-8 weeks.

Don’t let anxiety control your life. Call Reign-Bow Treatment Center or request an appointment online to see if you’re a good candidate for MeRT today.
